A well-spent day for members of Houston Royal Oaks Lions Club (HROLC), District 2-S2 and their friends, as they distributed “Hopeful Bags” for homeless individuals and families in downtown Houston. At 8:30 in the morning on a Saturday, the area of Franklin and Hamilton was spotted with a long line of men and women, the line leading to tables that were set up by other community organizations who had food packs to give away.
HROLC joined the Lady Lions Club of District 2-S2 in spearheading the distribution of Hopeful Bags. There were 200 bags distributed. Each bag had hygiene supplies. This initiative had inspired HROLC, and members are planning to come back again and distribute hopeful bags, only this time, the plan is to include some ready-to-eat canned goods, food items and bottled water.
FilAm community leader, Marilou Singson said that “This is my first time attend the bag distribution to the homeless community. Such asn eye awakening and fulfilling morning with like-minded friends.” She thanked the Lions Club for the opportunity to serve.
Lions Club Global Membership Chair, Emee Nisnisan stated that “This is just an awesome opportunity for members and friends to share their time with Lions in serving. Thank you everyone for being with us in this initiative of distributing care and hopeful bags to the homeless families in Houston area.”
HROLC’s commitment to service is shown in many ways. Global Membership Chair, Emee Nisnisan has been successful in bringing in new members for the District, organizing new chapters and establishing new community outreach projects. HRLOC is looking forward to its annual summer camp for children with disabilities. District 2-S2 meets every Wednesday to discuss all activities of the Lions Clubs in the district.
One Philippines Publisher, Bhong Zausa was very impressed by the humanitarian services of HROLC. He gave a remark by saying that “The Houston Royal Oaks Lions Club is one of the most active and visible organizations in Houston’s Filipino American community. They always create opportunities for their members to serve. Congratulations and more power to HROLC.”
